Lonza - Backing Grown in Britain
- 20 April 2018
Entering its second year of support for Grown in Britain, Lonza Wood Protection is continuing to develop products and technologies which will help the timber industry make the most of our home grown timber species.

Andy Hodge, Marketing Director at Lonza said “Grown in Britain is a fantastic organisation that is driving change for good across the homegrown forestry sector. We are delighted to support them and especially their growing programme of research and development that is adding value to UK grown wood products”.

In collaboration with their engineering partners, Tweddle Engineering, the award winning EXCALIBUR range of incising machines continues to adapt to customer and regulatory requirements to help bring the very best preservative protection to ground contact (Use Class 4) timbers.

EXCALIBUR R, for the surface incising of round timbers and EXCALIBUR PRO, for square sawn components, can both deliver consistent and highly effective incising up to 12mm in depth. This allows treatment companies to meet critical preservative penetration requirements, particularly in hard to penetrate exposed heartwood sections of machined timbers.

Lonza has also moved its UK customers onto its latest TANALITH wood preservative with increased BARamine application technologies built into an already robust formulation. BARamine patented technologies from Lonza help deliver a more consistent and deeper penetration of the preservative into the wood whilst also providing a more robust protection against certain copper tolerant organisms that can attack ground contact timbers.

Dougal Driver CEO of Grown in Britain said “We need the support of great companies like Lonza who invest in adding value to our forest product., Their help enable us to support a range of organisations from community woodland groups to those developing high tech construction solutions. Demand for our assured products is ‘on the march’ but we have so much more to do and so we are delighted to continue our productive partnership”.

Lonza’s BARamine and EXCALIBUR technologies were shortlisted by the UK Wood Protection Association for their 2018 awards with EXCALIBUR beating off stiff competition to win the Innovation Award.
